LA EDUCACIÓN COMO DERECHO. EL DILEMA DE ACEPTAR O RECHAZAR UN CUPO EN LA UNIVERSIDAD PÚBLICA ECUATORIANA

Abstract

El presente artículo tiene como propósito analizar los factores que influyen en los aspirantes universitarios, al momento de aceptar un cupo para una carrera que no fue de su elección, aceptando, en unos casos; y en otros, no, perdiendo de esta manera el cupo conseguido a través del examen de ingreso a la universidad pública ecuatoriana. El estudio de corte cualitativo se nutre de los resultados obtenidos en la tesis doctoral de la autora de este artículo. Al mismo tiempo recoge resultados de investigaciones cualitativas y cuantitativas en torno al tema presentado. Además, presenta los resultados de una encuesta aplicada a un grupo de estudiantes universitarios de primer ciclo, a quienes se indaga sobre sus elecciones profesionales. Los resultados muestran que las expectativas personales y familiares, el aspecto económico y el proceso inherente al sistema de ingreso ecuatoriano, constituyen factores que pesan al momento de tomar la decisión de aceptar un cupo o rechazarlo, cuando se trata de una carrera que no es la primera elección del aspirante universitario.

Abstract
The purpose of this article is to analyze the factors that influence university applicants when deciding whether to accept a place in a career hat was not their choice, accepting in some cases and rejecting in others, thereby losing the place obtained through of the entrance exam to the Ecuadorian public university. The qualitative study builds upon the results presented in the author’s doctoral thesis. At the same time, it collects the results obtained in the doctoral thesis of the author of this article. At the same time, it collects results from qualitative and quantitative research on the topic presented. It also presents the result of a survey applied to a group of first-cycle university students who are asked about their professional choices. The results show that personal and family expectations, the economic aspect, and the process inherent to the Ecuadorian admission system constitute factors that weigh when deciding to accept a place or reject it when it is a career that is not the first choice of the university applicant.
