PLANTAS UTILIZADAS EN NIXPU PIMA, EL RITUAL DE PASO DE LOS CASHINAHUA, AMAZONÍA PERUANA

Resumen

Los Cashinahua son un pueblo amazónico panohablante, asentado a ambos lados de la frontera que divide el Perú y el estado brasileño de Acre. Durante un inventario etnobotánico realizado en la región peruana del Alto Purús, en las comunidades indígenas Cashinahua del río Curanja y sus alrededores, en los años 2010-2015, se documentaron los nombres locales, los conocimientos y los usos tradicionales de un total de 467 plantas medicinales recolectadas. Doce de ellas se utilizaban tradicionalmente durante el festival Nixpu Pima, un ritual de transición de los niños a la edad adulta. El trabajo presenta una breve historia de los Cashinahua peruanos, el transcurso y las distintas fases de la ceremonia, y se centra, por primera, vez en las plantas específicas utilizadas en la ceremonia de Nixpu Pima. De particular importancia son algunas especies del género Piper - P. leucophaeum y P. Hispidum, el exudado de cuyos brotes se utiliza para el ennegrecimiento de los dientes. Este es un hito central del ritual y, además de su significado simbólico, también se pretende que actúe como prevención y protección de los dientes contra la caries. Se compara el uso de las plantas con la bibliografía disponible.

Abstract
The Cashinahua are an indigenous people of the Amazonian forest, inhabiting the border region between Peru and the Brazilian state of Acre. During an ethnobotanical inventory conducted in the Peruvian region of Alto Purus (2010-2015) among the Cashinahua indigenous communities located near the Curanja River, the vernacular names, knowledge, and traditional uses of a total of 467 medicinal plants collected were documented. Twelve of them were traditionally used during the Nixpu Pima festival a ritual marking the transition from childhood to adulthood. The paper presents a brief history of the Peruvian Cashinahua, the course and different phases of the ceremony, and focuses for the first time on the specific plants used in the Nixpu Pima ceremony. Of particular importance are some species of the genus Piper - P. leucophaeum and P. hispidum the sap of whose shoots is used for the blackening of teeth, which is a central component of the ritual, and, in addition to its symbolic significance, it is also intended to act as a preventative measure against caries. A comparison of the uses of the plants is made with the available literature.
