The global context caused by COVID-19, a year later, continues to be an event that is difficult to assimilate. However, of the various problems that can be dealt with in this pandemic, the following analysis focuses on the role of the media and organizations and how they have influenced the population, considering that, at times like these, information is a weapon of great power. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the new realities created by COVID-19 from different perspectives than the usual ones; for this reason, this essay will critically approach the discourse of the media, organizations and cultural hegemony within the context of the pandemic.
The current situation has generated a shock for global governance systems, where economic growth and social development have not been the only ones affected. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, information has come from multiple sources and in such quantity that it would be easier to ignore it. However, it is interesting to understand that all the information presented has been delivered with a purpose and therefore has an undoubted subjectivity. Such as in any historical event of this magnitude, information has marked the agenda of the day, and it has come along with contradictions, the hegemonic discourses, the dominance of the global north, and an attempt to address a new world order.
