Abstract.

The present study analyzes the financial performance of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SCC) of segment 1. For this purpose, information was collected from the years 2016 to 2020, through the financial bulletins of the SEPS. Given the structure of the data, the factors that influence profitability were estimated through a panel data model, considering random effects. The estimation method was a Logit. From the results, it can be mentioned that those entities that make the best use of their assets are the ones that are most likely to be profitable. In this same sense, the SCC´s that have greater coverage for their different types of credit, are less likely to maintain high profitability. In addition, an important aspect to note is that not necessarily a large entity is the one that showed the highest profitability. Therefore, the study is useful both for decision-makers within organizations, and for those who want to analyze the profitability of cooperatives before investing their resources.

Key Words: COAC, Ecuador, Logit, Profitability, Financial System.
ER -
